So I'm off.

I'm not assuming anyone cares, but I thought it best to sign off. I guess this is a growing up step, I'm not a teen anymore. I haven't been using this forum for my intended purpose, researching stocks, but debating endlessly about various topics just like I used to do on other forums. Really, there is no point. It used to help me compare my own beliefs with others, as a self-checking and correcting measure. But its rare now that anyone has anything new to teach me. Now I just get frustrated that everyone can disagree so thoroughly on every topic, and bewildered by the extreme and immovable beliefs some people hold. There is no convergence upon 'right answers' in the general public, like there is in science and technology. Its all noise, and nothing is going to progress anywhere. I figure then, anything I add is pointless and merely adds to the noise.

So given that this has become a sap upon my time, I have decided it best to bring it to a close. All in all this is a good forum, but I need to devote my time to other things from now on.
Cheers to Joe, and happy investing to all.

Forum conversation is best not taken too seriously.

When it comes to the beliefs of others, thier perspective will never be identical to yours. You can only lead a horse to water. Beyond that, it's up to them. If you get something worthwhile out of a discussion, all well and good, but if not, then it's not worth loosing sleep over. There's always next time.

It can however be a vice like alcohol. Best participated in moderation, but, like alcohol consumption, that requires greater self discipline than complete abstinence.

sorry to see you go,

initially i thought you were a bit of a turd but came to see that, although we expressed ourselves very differently, mostly we were basically on the same page... must have just been my 'insanity' throwing my judgment off hey ;) ya p*ss taker! :)

have fun in whatever new venture you now decide to dedicate your 'freed up' time to buddy... adios mi amigo... my last words for you are from mr TJ yet again:

“If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy?”
― Thomas Jefferson

But its rare now that anyone has anything new to teach me.

If I am walking with two other men, each of them I will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself.

Good bye and good luck.

In the words of the great Jed McKenna, "all beliefs are false", and when he says all, he means everything and anything, not just those that you have on abortion, politics and religion....ALL beliefs! There are no "right answers".

Whenever I find myself commenting on non stock stuff I usually scold myself. It's all BS!

Stick to the stocks Gringotts!

I know what you mean. Since recently achieving omnipotence myself, I find it extremely difficult communicating with human and spend more time nowadays communicating with animals. We have such fun. Goodbye. :)

Don't you dare talk to my dog.........

Sorry to hear that your deciding to leave, I hope I didn't contribute too much to your decision. As my name states I'm a lurker/troll I just go on here to check the views of asf members in relation to the stock market as a whole e.g. asx tanking thread, and companies on my watchlist. You shouldn't take my antagonism personally, it should be clear that I don't care about anything except myself. My views on various topics are opposite to the majority on this forum anyway.

To quote Groucho,

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Outside of a dog some will miss your posts, but inside of a dog it is still too dark for me to comment.

I agree and have been asked why I dont get involved in other general topics.

They dont interest me.

I find myself starting threads which do interest me.
often They are hijacked by the "Idiot" factor.

Fortunately there is enough of the interesting stuff to keep me involved.
Often learn the odd thing along the way.

I have over the years benefited from the generosity of many others on topics of interest.
I have received a great deal often offered up at no cost which I'm certain I would never of found had I KNOWN what it was I was looking for.

I think for me the real benefit comes from the broad group where "someone" will know "something".

So on the flip side thanks to anyone and everyone who has added to my knowledge and interests during my stay here.
It is greatly appreciated even though we may not at times see eye to eye.

tech,
This is my first post, pity its on such terms. Although I have not played an active role on this forum I regularly frequent to increase my knowledge of stocks and economics. Largely with a technical view myself I have gone through alot of your posts. Unfortunatley it happens on every forum of every topic as everyone is an expert on the internet. Too bad we will never get to see the thread you were going to start up of technical analysis due to a few bad apples, as you have a very uncomplicated view of the topic which even they could have learnt something from.
Thanks for all your threads to date as they have taught me and most likely alot of others a great deal.

Oh come on give us a chance, ask us a share research question, don't go. Only joking.
The forum is really just a place for people who don't have someone to argue with, or have someone but they are too scared to argue with them. LOL.
All the best in your endevours, just remember, no matter how stupid someone is they will know something you don't. C Ya

Goodbye tothemax6.

I've noticed some posters leave without saying a thing & never come back & others say they are leaving but come back.

Please stay or don't be seen as of those pusses that come back *cough*.

Wow. Sorry to read the farewell. i like this forum and I do take things seriously, I dont argue, and love to read both support and counter interpretations. because I know none of us has got it right. It is far more important to understand the others viewpoint. then WE have communication.

I have been suffering some dark clouds in my mind, they have been looming for a while. Then some things happened that have rocked my world. Right now I am stuffed in the head and it is only some very awesome communication that is getting me through. Sorry I will continue this in Movember 2011 thread. I dont want to hi jack theis thread.

All, i do value you comments, I think of it as a place I can talk and hear voices that give me others insights. tothemax6 yours equally as much as anyones. While you may be frustrated in some responses others may be getting your point, and learning from your experience while you may not be learning anything new yourself.

All the best, and dont be too proud to join in again. Some are still listening amongst the noise.

cheers
jb

jb, I can completely empathise with this. Take care. I wish you all the best.
Something I always say to myself at the darkest hours is:
"Everything passes."

..."Everything passes."

Yes Julia, it's one of my ways of getting through difficult times.

All the best JB and take care of yourself - I must have a look at the Movember thread.

Tothemax6 - sorry to hear you are heading off - perhaps you will pop in occasionally..:)

Probably the right decision, if you are not having fun, not learning - what's the point. I find it difficult to find much humor here. Cynicism, chest beating and one upmanship doesn't make for a good forum. Maybe it's the wrong format., maybe it's just the people attracted to a forum with the word "Aussie" in it.

BTW I like the title of the post - kind of sums it up.

Whilst there is some cynicism amongst the masses, quite a few of the better posters here are quite adept at lining their posts with humor (and witticism) devices such as irony and sarcasm. Hell, there is even some slapstick humour at times. There's plenty of spirit and a wide variety of personalities on here. Depends how literally you read every post, I believe.
